One of auto retail’s toughest ongoing challenges is technician retention:
The group has put $1.6M into bonuses and built an in-house training program that’s fundamentally changing how they hire and retain service talent.
It was three years ago when McGovern turned a 30-year veteran tech into a full-time recruiter.
Today, a full-blown hiring engine has brought in over 100 new technicians while cutting turnover to 21%.
But McGovern didn’t stop there.
The group built “McGovern University,” a structured onboarding program coves the basics with side-by-side training.
And based on tenure, inspection performance, and certifications…
Average techs bank $6K–$8K in bonuses, while top performers typically clear $18K–$20K.
What's next: McGovern continues expanding the program as the group acquires additional stores, including two pending acquisitions that will bring the portfolio to 36 rooftops.
